Shorts are pants just shorter. Change my mind?

Are Shorts the same as pants? If so why have two different names? If not why do you think people say theyre?

They’re made exactly the same way most of the time with basically the same fabrics just with different amounts of it. So yeah, they’re the same just different lengths although I’ve personally never thought of it that way simply because it just didn’t cross my mind lol

I think "shorts" was originally short pantaloons or something and it eventually got abbreviated.
