Pros and Cons of being Induced??

Question

So I am 38+3 weeks pregnant and today at my appointment my doctor brought up induction. He said I can induce as early as next Tuesday. This is my first pregnancy and I wasn't expecting to have that option so soon, however my husband and I would like to wait until our due date (Decemeber 1st, 11 days from now). I'm just wondering about other people's experiences with being induced, especially if you've had it both ways (one baby natural, one induced) and any kind of tips or suggestions. I've heard being induced causes more painful contractions. I haven't had any kind of complications in this pregnancy. I am already dilated to a 1. Thanks for any experiences!

I was induced with my first baby at 37 weeks due to pre eclampsia. I had a very smooth and easy delivery! I got only one dose of cytotec and was already a 3 and then started pitocin got my epidural. My labor was only 7 hours! I only pushed for max 20 minutes. My friend was induced at 42 weeks and was in labor for 36 hours and pushed for 2 hours. So all dependent on how your body reacts to the medicine !

Just so you know my personal experience: I had my first at 41 weeks - I went into labour naturally and it was a quick and uncomplicated birth. I’m personally doubtful it would have been so smooth if I had been induced. Also, my baby was only 6.5lbs even though the doctor told me he was a big baby - if I’d been induced early I can only imagine how teeny he would have been. 
So pros to induction: you kind of get to pick your baby’s birthday, you don’t have to be pregnant for as long, you won’t be “surprised” by labour or have a hard time getting to the hospital. If there’s a medical reason for it, it can be lifesaving. 
Cons to induction: labour can be more painful depending on the induction method, it can be longer depending how your body reacts to the induction, you’re more likely to need some sort of intervention. 
Induction is a totally valid choice, and it’s lifesaving in some circumstances. My personal belief is that extra growing time is usually good for babies - average gestation is 40 weeks for a reason.

I had inductions with my two children at 40w3d. I had great labor/deliveries. Started with pitocin drip about 8/9a and babies arrived by 2p. Seemed like a great length of time- felt like a great pace. Would definitely induce again if offered- even a few days before DD. I’m also hoping to have this babe before Jan 1 due date for a few reasons! 
With both children I was 4cm dialated and baby dropped at 36w though (still ended up going past my DDs) and had 8.7-8.9lb babies so my body felt very ready and maybe contributed to it going so well. Just needed a little help to turn all those BH contractions into the real deal. That’s my experience.
My friend was induced 3 days before DD recently and her experience was excellent as well.

So I was induced at 41 weeks.   Next baby i will not allow induction until I hit 42.   Baby needs to be in there as long as they can.   Till their due date at least.  I am actually surprised a dr is suggesting that even.   I mean all this is assuming no medical issues.   But my dr wouldn't even discuss an induction till 40 weeks
