A little background:

I'm from a foreign country, and I don't have family in the USA beside my husband. We been together for 5 years, we live across country distance - 7hours fly - from his parents, siblings and all. He left hometown - Massachusetts at 18y, to become military, after he got out, he choose to live California, where he started school. I met him at college on the city we live, we were classmates. I visited his family many times there, and they came here too many times to visit. I always had a good relationship with his parents. We had our first child recently.

The problem:

My in-laws came to visit for a while month when the baby was born. They stayed in a hotel because my place is very small. But they came to stay a whole day until late night everyday, bbq, partying, drinking and smoking. I had c-section and I'm still breastfeeding. My mother in law was very judgmental and unpleasant. She did no cook or help me to clean my house, I tried hard to keep up with the a good reception for them. My husband worked a whole day, and I was not cooking dinner for him, he would fix his own dinner. Because again, I was recovery from c-section and breastfeeding my newborn. She called him aside and asked him why I don't take care of his dinner. Also, every time my husband cooked dinner for everyone, she commented that if I eat normal food I would make my baby sick/gassy. She made many sour comments like that. I was so relieved when they left, I could finally enjoy my family in peace!

The question;

My husband and I wants to buy a house soon. Before, we always considered to move there, close to them, so he could enjoy his father's company and the family in general - holidays and all. But now, it freaks me out to think in share a life with them all the time. They don't value education, are kind of hippies, and camping/drink is all the fun they like - they talk with a lot of slangs and bad words. I'm finishing s bachelor degree and my husband his masters. I want my child to learn that education and manners are important!

What should we do? Stay in California or move there?
