Apartment help?

Question

Any young ladies out there that have their own apartment around the ages of 19-22 while in college? Is it difficult? I really want an apartment once I graduate...should I start saving up a ton of money??

No matter whether you live alone or split, make sure you always have like 3-6mo worth of bill money in a savings account. And the more people involved in a living situation, the greater the chances for drama...and the harder it is to keep items separate and/or keep people from damaging or playing with your things. You have to deal with their pets, habits, decor, and cleanliness levels. If you can afford a place by yourself, or with only 1 roommate, that is ideal. If it's just you, you have the option of studio apartments as well as 1 bedrooms. If it's you and a roommate (or more), you are stuck looking at places with 1 bedroom for each person. Or if you room with a long term couple, they probably can share a bedroom. But i wouldn't room with a couple unless they've been together a while and lived together in the past, otherwise they are probably going to be prone to drama outbursts, and you can end up getting pulled in too.

I had an apartment all through college and a few more after graduation. I would suggest saving up money. You will need to put down a couple deposits on your apartment and many require first and last month's rent. You may need to put down a deposit when you turn on your electricity,water, etc. 
  They will also look at your credit to decide whether you will be a reliable tenant. You may want to check your credit. When I graduated I had not had a credit card yet so I had to have a parent co-sign with me. Good luck!

I am 27 and have had my own apartment since I was 16 (since my parents kicked me out). Not only did I work full time and I also am/was a part time college student, mother and wife (since I was 20). It has it difficult times but you get through it.  Good luck

I moved out with my husband when we were 18.. I'm 21 I'll be 22 in 6 months and he'll be 22 in a couple months. He was in college just finished a few weeks ago (full time student) full time job as he was working 40-65 hours a week. And I was working part time do to health issues so it is possible just as long as you set your mind to it. It's difficult in the beginning but after almost 3 years were doing fine.

Not if you get an efficiency apartment. Some places are based on income as well. Be sure you let them know you are going to college. Get a part time job. If you have grants/loans and have money left over you can use that as well (you'll have to repay it back though) just until you get on your feet. But yes save as much as you can.

Dh and I are the same age. We got our own place at 20, along with our son. He works and I go for school. I would say that its hard some days.. Wish you the best.
