When will they listen to the heartbeat?

I've got my first appointment today and I'm nearly 12 weeks and heard loads of people saying their midwife did listen for a heartbeat and loads saying they won't. Anyone shed some light on this?

I didn't hear it till my second OB appt at 15 weeks

With this pregnancy I’m high risk so they listened for it at 8 weeks. Heard it clear as day. It all depends on your doctor/midwife.

I heard mine at i like 15 or 16 weeks. They usually try to wait a bit to make sure you won't panic if they can't pick it up early. Especially is using a Doppler. Before that i just seen the heartbeat on an ultrasound

I had an early US at 7 weeks where we heard the heart beat. But my doctor said they will listen to the babys heart beat starting at the 12 week OB appointment and each OB appointment after. So for me, yes.

My doctor tried at 12 weeks and couldn't find it because she said I have an anterior placenta. I just had another appointment on Monday at 15 weeks and she found it right away. 😊
