Heavy bleeding during sex?!

My hubby and I were having sex and I started literally gushing blood, we get to the hospital and I'm 2cm dialated (the babies okay) they literally would not tell me what the heck happened, is this normal or what the hell happened??? (I wasn't in real labor my cervix stayed at a 2)
