Dogs and babies?

I have 2 pits that I love more than anything in this world. How did you guys adjust dogs to babies? I’ve been playing crying sounds and one of them don’t care, the other is just very curious and will move the blanket until he finds my phone.

When our roommates had their baby their German Shepard mix was interested, but didn’t know how to interact with her. They would show her to the dog and let him smell her and nudge her with his nose, but wouldn’t let him put his mouth on her or lick her.

Make sure once baby is born, before you bring them home bring home.. introduce them to a blanket or beanie, something with babies scent. Before my daughter was born I made sure to play crying noises and pull and tug at him so he would be used to that lol. Once we brought her home he was really good with her, when she cried he was more curious then anything and would just stare or try and come get me and walk back to the crib. I don’t ever leave them alone cuz you just never know but I’m very lucky everything worked out cuz my pittie was def my first baby and could never let him go.

It’s all about proper introduction, boundaries, and supervision. Knowing when your dog is getting agitated when a child starts pulling tails, scratching their nose etc is crucial. We have 3 dogs and our first baby on the way.  I can’t even imagine life without our 3 dogs so we recognize that it starts with our behavior. We’ve had our young nephew and friends’ young kids come over as tests. 1 of the dogs avoids them, 1 loves them and the other is just super curious at the little people. We’re just going to have to manage the situation from the beginning when ours arrives. Hoping that it will be easier to start with a human that doesn’t move around a whole lot vs a walking 1 year old like our nephew!

Honestly, I’d never let a dog and babies interact, especially alone. I had a Rottweiler and wouldn’t allow it, even though he never showed signs of issues. Sorry but my husband stitches up too many tiny faces after dog attacks.

My dog is super protective of my son.. if he cries the dog is right there checking on him and trying to give him kisses.. he’s always by my side while baby is eating and sleeping in my arms too.. the cat is afraid of the baby 😂
