Is it weird to give you bf a ring?

Long story short I am with the love of my life and best friend. The most perfect relationship I have ever known and I can't fathom how I ever lived before I met him.

(I know it sounds sappy and cliché).

I never really believed in marriage, you know the legal kind with the certificates, witnesses, and ceremony. It's just not me and it's something we do agree on.

However, I really want to get him something special like a ring because of the promised commitment symbolism.

Is it too weird or okay? How do you even present/give something like that?

Any thoughts/suggestions?
