birth control + spotting

TLDR: brown spotting with nexplanon insert

So I had nexplanon inserted September 14th and I followed everything they'd told me with aftercare and continued using another form of contraception for a week after. I'd gotten it inserted while on my period and it ended maybe 2-3 days after.

About a week-ish (2 weeks max) after I got the BC I started spotting, which I was told would be normal. I was a little concerned though because the color was more of a light brown with no hint of red at all so it didn't really seem like a period? And it wasn't enough to use a tampon and I really hate pads and prefer not to use them lol but it was also too much to use nothing.

So this brown spotting continued for almost 2 months until it finally just stopped right around the 2 month mark (mid november). A week of nothing and then one day of light spotting but this time it was more red in color so i assumed I was getting my period, but this lasted not even a full day. Again, it stopped and there was nothing until about 2-3 days ago when the brown spotting made a return! It was very light and then I had a day of no spotting until I had sex and it got all over my boyfriend. Like it was seriously so much lol and he freaked out thinking it was something else and I had to explain to him that it was the same spotting I was getting when I first got the BC and assure him it didn't come out of a different hole lmao.

Anyway, has anyone else with nexplanon experienced anything similar? I've read that some people had month long or even longer periods and then it completely stopped or that they experienced a lot of spotting too, but it's the color that I'm confused about. I've read that the color is because it's older? I'm not really sure if it's normal or not, but I'm waiting to contact my doctor about it because I was told spotting would be normal, so I'm thinking I wait another week and if it continues I'm gonna call and get their input just to be safe and maybe consider other BC options. Otherwise I do love nexplanon and haven't experienced any other negative side effects and would love to keep it until it's time to get it removed.
