Stealing Her Baby Name 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve had a baby girl name that I’ve always loved, that is very suited to my husband and I, and is my great grandmother’s name. It’s also the only one that my husband and I were both able to agree on from when we started trying to have a baby, to now (five months into my pregnancy).

Here’s my dilemma- a friend of my husband’s who we VERY rarely speak to anymore had a baby last month that she named the same as the one we were hoping to name our daughter. Since we don’t talk much and aren’t very close (last we saw her was over a year ago) it’s not like she knew we wanted that name, or we knew she’d take it, but I feel as though she very much will feel like we are copying her. I tried to ignore the situation, but we just found out our baby is a girl so it’s been weighing on me.

For context, the name is vintage and not as common, but is definitely coming back into fashion (as I’m noticing now haha) and is considered a top 50 name on some list. My husband isn’t concerned, considering he doesn’t really consider this girl a friend anymore and we love the name.

I think we will move forward with it since it’s a family name and the only name we love, but do I owe her a heads up? She does try to text me once in a blue moon (twice since she found out I was pregnant) so what would I even say?
