EP Pain Normal?

Question

FTM with a 3 week old. My breast & nipples are sore & very sensitive to touch. Even my t-shirt bothers them. I have some pins & needle feelings & the occasional throbbing. My nipples are not cracked or bleeding. I’m trying to figure out if this is just normal for transitioning into EP or if I could have Thrush or something is wrong. How long did it take your breast/nipples to be pain free?

Well, at 3 weeks, I think it's normal. The pain should go away though. You might be pumping at too high a setting or you need a different size flanges if you're still experiencing pain. If that doesn't solve it, it could be thrush. I had thrush pretty bad and the pain was so unbearable. Look at signs, like a red circle around your nipples and it's shiny and flaky. If you had antibiotics recently, thrush is more likely. As for the sensitivity, it never goes away, at least for me. It's always there and it's uncomfortable to touch. It shouldn't be bothersome with your clothes and bra on, especially with some good nursing pads. Hopefully you can figure something out!

The first weeks of pumping were excruating for me. Exactly like what youve described. I then joined a fb pumping mommas group and they told me all about lining your flanges and nipples with Coconut oil. I was pumping with no lubrication 😭😭 but coconut oil made a hell of a difference.    Earth momma nipple butter for after pumping was so good. I even stuffed crushed ice wrapped in a wet napkin and then placed then on my nipples too.
