FTM ... Mothers are important too???

Question

Just venting 🥺 FTM and a few people already telling me I won’t matter once baby comes. Of course I know the baby will be everything (she already is cause I can’t wait until she is here 😊) but I don’t like when they say that...makes me feel horrible. I know I will take a new identity as a mother...What should I respond?

Um actually you’ll matter MORE. 
Yes you make tremendous sacrifices for your baby. You do put your baby above you and the things you felt were oh so important before baby become minuscule. 
However, you are the absolute world to your baby and that means everything. No one else could replace mommy. So no you matter more than ever. It’s the best most rewarding, most challenging thing in the world.

I don’t know how to respond. I very palpably felt myself disappear after my daughter was born, mostly from a professional point of view. So I’ve just had to adjust. I can’t go to after-work networking events, I can’t push my career as hard as I used to. This made me feel like I was disappearing and didn’t matter. But now I’ve rearranged my priorities, put hardcore career on the back burner for now, and am enjoying my new role as a mother. So I feel like I matter more now. So when people say that to you, they probably are saying it from experience, not to hurt you.

After I had my first baby all of my visitors bought gifts for the baby except my nan. She said to me that the mums are always forgotten and she had bought me a gift not bub. It was so lovely

Oh golly, I'm pregnant with my 2nd and people will address my bump before me, lol. It's so wierd. When we visited my Dad with the new baby, he pushed me out of the way to get to the baby! People go loopy around babies, this is why I always greet a woman first and ask about her, non baby questions etc. We are more than just Mothers, we can talk about other things, we have interests, hobbys, etc.
