This might be a weird question, but I have always been curious about this as I only know one language. When you become fluent in another language, do you translate everything you hear/read back into your native language in order to understand it? For example if your native tongue is English and you learned Spanish later in life, would you translate the word “gato” into cat in order to make sense of it or do you automatically understand what it means?
