Do I give the money back?

I got 2 Christmas cards from my grandfather who I do not speak to. I don't speak to him for legitimate reasons, he is a bad person and I just try to avoid him. When I had my baby he kept trying to ask about him and see him and I haven't allowed it I don't want him in my sons life because of the type of person he is and past things he has done to my family. He sent us 100 dollars in a Christmas card. Do I send it back or do I just text him and say thanks. I know if I text him he will try to see and ask about my son and I don't want him to be involved in his life at all. But my husband said it's more rude to send the money back. I'm not trying to be rude I just don't want to accept money if I'm not speaking to someone but my husband said I will look rude either way and now idk what to do.....

Keep the $100 and say thanks. You’re not obligated to allow anyone in your child’s life, but at least let him know you appreciate the gift.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Put the money towards something useful down the road. (College fund, braces, etc.) Send a thank you card after New Years and leave it at that. You don't have to open the door to a kew relationship but it is the gracious thing to acceot a gift from someone who may be trying to atone for their short comings.

If you want to keep the money put it towards your child. Send a thank you card instead of a text and that way the door isn't open for continued communication. If you want to tell him what you spend the money on that's your choice but a cheap, simple thank you card with 'thank you for the gift money from (your name)' is more than sufficient.

So he’s trying to buy your love is what it sounds like...personally if you already don’t speak to him and he’s such a bad person why would you husband think that sending back gift cards would be rude when y’all already keeping his grandkids away from him? I would not accept money from people I felt were bad and that I didn’t want in my or my family’s life.

Not that you owe him shit but if he is a manipulative type person he will definitely try to throw it back in your face if you do take his money. Like “why can’t I see the kid I gave you this and that” so if you want to avoid that at all cost I’d say give it back.

When I wasn’t speaking to my MIL, she gave me a card with $20 in it and I sent it back. 
If you do keep the money, I would definitely at least say thank you at a minimum. You don’t need to answer calls or texts about anything any further.

To be honest . I would say thank you . It alot ppl that got crazy family members . I have ppl in my family that don't like blacks . But I smile at them.and keep going on about my life.  At the end of  the day I don't have worry about it god will take care of them..

I would send it back. I can’t see myself keeping money from someone I want nothing to do with. It would be wrong to keep it
