Boyfriend has herpes???

Ok so my boyfriend is a wrestler and has contradicted a form of herpes called Herpes Gladiatorum also known as Mat herpes. He says that it is the same virus as a cold sore and can not be transmitted unless it is open (wounds are visible on infected area). I need some help here ladies do I no longer have sex with him or?

He can get on suppressants if it really bugs you, wear condoms always, avoid sex at outbreaks, make sure hands and everything are always washed before touching sensitive areas including your mouth.
