Is shipping dogs safe?

I am looking to get a dog and was looking around online. I saw a dog that I thought would be a perfect fit for my family and it was on a local page but when I talked to the seller, she says she’s actually located in another state due to her daughters health. She says that instead of being able to meet, she could ship the dog to me. But I’m terrified of this idea bc I have never seen a dead animal and would prefer not to. Has anyone ever done this and it ended okay? And if not, would you?
