We are designed to handle pain in birth!

Celia Mei • Mama of two • Holistic Birth Keeper @intuitive.birth

Labor pain is unlike any other pain you’ve ever experienced. I would hardly even call it pain. The sensations of labor are like ocean waves. The uterus is drawing up at the top and pulling the cervix open to allow baby down. This movement is not constant. The uterus does this for about a minute. And then it rests for a few minutes. Then repeats. It’s when we resist these waves that our body creates tension making this movement less effective and interpreted as pain.

There is also a new dance of hormones that we don’t experience any other time in life. Oxytocin (the love hormone) is being released to initiate waves (contractions). Endorphins (the feel good hormone) is being released to counteract the intensity of sensations and bring us into a deeper state of being.

We are perfectly designed to go through labor and birth. The body knows what to do. Our only job is to get into an environment where we feel safe, secure, and comfortable. And nourish our bodies with food and water through the process.
