Why do Catholics not believe in contraception?

I am Catholic and I agree with the church’s stance on sexual ethics (aka- no birth control). We don’t believe in birth control because sex was explicitly made for the union of the husband and wife and the procreation of children. Yes, it is also for pleasure and bonding and love, but ultimately it has to be open to life. It’s what God intended it to be. Fertility is not a disease or something I should try to suppress. It’s natural and beautiful- and if I truly love my husband, why would I want to keep anything from him? Getting married means giving ALL of yourself to the other person, not all of yourself minus the inconvenient or “bad” stuff. By manipulating sex into something where children are not possible, we are kind of playing God in the aspects of what real sex should be, how we should value sex, and denying God the ability to work with us in our lives as future parents (when and how baby will be born (planned or unplanned) etc). 
My husband and I practice NFP for those reasons and dozens more (some religious and some because of science). It’s 97% effective for experienced practicers! That’s more than condoms and birth control!!!

I’m catholic and I believe in birth control. I was always taught about birth control growing up and will be raising my kids the same way.

As far as I know it is because it’s believed that you have sex when you re married and then as God said it should be you create life. And contraception pills don’t let it stick.

Catholic. I spoke to my Priest about it. I’m unmarried (with the man I love and am engaged) but we’re having unprotected sex. Sex is for procreation but since I’m doing it and am against abortion, Birth control is the best option. I just came off. We want babies now.!

I’m not Catholic. I’m not really who you want to hear from, but Christians from all different denominations can be against contraceptive use. I don’t use hormonal contraception because it can technically prevent a fertilized egg from implanting. Even though I’m firmly pro-choice, I’m not okay with it for myself. I use NFP which is basically cycle awareness with abstinence or condoms during my fertile window. 
Some people choose not to use contraceptives because they feel it gets in the way of God’s plan for their family. Some believe sex is for procreation purposes. Some people take the Genesis verse to go forth and multiply seriously and literally. There’s a lot of reasons.
