Can you eat when you’re in labor?

I thought I heard someone say you can and then I’ve seen others snacking on ice so I thought I’d ask for sure 😂

I was induced and couldn't have anything but water.

It depends on where you’re giving birth and what kind of birth you’re having. There’s actually not a good medical reason not to allow food during labor anymore, because we don’t use anesthesia during c-sections anymore, but a lot of hospitals still hold to that old rule. 
My midwives highly encourage eating during labor to keep up energy and strength! But I will say, I threw up everything I ate when I was in labor. 😂😣

I couldn’t eat anything but ice chips. I completely understood why. I felt like I had to throw up so imagine eating so much that would not be good. I ended up throwing up but it was liquid

My sister wasn’t supposed to eat while in labor for no clear reason but she definitely had us sneak some red lobster in to her and everything was perfectly fine. I’ve heard some places not allowing women to eat because they may vomit and choke or poop on the baby while pushing but I have another sister that didn’t eat while in labor and she still shit a big one right as my nephew came out so I’d say listen to your gut (pun intended) and do what feels best.

I could eat and drink what and when I wanted. It took 28hours from my water broke to baby came, so I’m sure I couldn’t do it without anything to eat/drink. But there came a point when I didn’t want food anymore.

I was told not to due to the chance of pooping/vomiting while pushing. After a few hours I was starving... so my husband snuck some subway in for me. Best. Meal. Ever. 😂 So glad I had that meal despite being in labor... since I didn’t get to eat for another 12+ hours or so.

Most hospitals don't allow women to eat while in labor. You can eat before you go in.
When I was in labor with my daughter, I tried to eat but ended up just throwing up it anyway.
