Should we be held accountable for others actions?

A debate with my husband brought the topic fairness which led into this. In either a legal case or just everyday life. Do you feel it’s fair to be held accountable for someone else’s actions?

Legal case example: “Driver and passenger received the death penalty. Passenger shot and killed someone and even testified that they acted alone”

I can’t think of an everyday example without involving my personal life. You don’t have to go by the example.
