My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship and he’s coming March 12. My period starts March 1, and that means I ovulate on the 14. If I start the pill on the fifth day of my period (March 5) would it be effective for March 12 and on?

Read the pamphlet that comes with your pill. Generally speaking, if you start the first day of your period, it’s effective immediately but this could vary with the individual pill.

Depends. With the kind I was on, if you started on day 1 of your period, then it was effective after 7 days, but if you waited until Sunday, then it wasn't fully effective until after 28 days.
