Moving away to new state?

Question

Has anyone every moved from their hometown to a new state or country where they don’t know anyone? Any advice on missing family and how to cope with loneliness?

I moved to Texas 4 years ago from Wisconsin. It’s really hard but you have to remind yourself why your moving in the first place. Lots of phone calls. The first year is the hardest especially during the holidays. Just remember the phases of being homesick will become less and less and time. Goes on. Heck I’m here in Wisconsin right now and as much as I love everyone and wish I could see them all the time Im ready to head back to Texas tomorrow. You will be good just give it time, I spent a lot of time when I first moved giving myself reasons why I should move back but as time went by my list for reasons why I shouldn’t move back became longer and longer

I did and I’m going on 6 years. Moved from Illinois to Texas when I married my husband.
Neither of us have any family here. It has been tough.
I started off calling my mom a bit everyday and then once a week. Sometimes it has been once every two weeks, but that has been because she has been in and out of the Doctor. We use FaceTime on those calls.
My husband text his sisters more than his mom.
I suggest joining a group of some sort be it a church group or other social groups. Also try to get to know your neighbors. My step son’s former kindergarten teacher is our legit next door neighbor, we share a fence!
I joined a martial arts school through my husband’s old boss and made friends there. I left that school for one closer and I’m so glad I did. I can’t begin to tell you how much these people have become family! Watching my kids without me having to ask when I went into labor early and my chosen babysitter was ill!
Chin up, it will be hard at first, but it will turn out how it is meant to!

I moved from Michigan to California.  It was hard but Skype,  lots of phone calls, and frequent trips back help :)

I moved to France (from the US) 3 years ago!😊 Tips for missing your family: use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Skype to video chat! Don’t even schedule it, just call whenever you feel. That’s how my family does it and we end up talking multiple times a week even if only for a few minutes

I’m from SoCal and have lived away for almost four years. I’m currently living on the opposite coast. Video calling is how I stay in touch with my family on a daily basis. My SO and visit my family once a year. I’ve also been lucky that his family loves having us visit them (a 4hour car ride).
It’s tough, but after awhile you gain a sense of independence and strength that you might never have developed if you’d stayed home.
