TWW Advice

This is my Husband and my first time TTC our 1st baby. My next cycle is supposed to start 1/14 and I’m driving myself crazy!!! How long did you wait to test, how early is it possible to get the faintest of lines, and how did you keep yourselves busy?! I ovulated either late on 12/30 or early 12/31 so I’m not very far along DPO wise but my husband leaves on the 8th for a month long training program for work and I’m really hoping I can see something before he leaves or right after to surprise him??
