ER or no? Help!

Question

My son has had runny nose/terrible cough since Wednesday and every time I start to think it’s getting better he dips back down into the terrible cough. 
He’s 3 and I have been giving him cough medicine since Wednesday night. 
He’s not running a fever but is sweating a lot and is miserable. 
Is this ER worthy? I’m really worried.
EDIT: I do not have a pediatrician (or that’s who I’d be going to) due to insurance problems

Others have answered on the ER question, and I wholeheartedly agree. I’ve also read your response. 
The ER cannot legally refuse you if you were to go. They’re going to tell you to follow up with a primary doctor. If you say you don’t have one, they’re going to tell you to get one or even assign you to one nearby/affiliated. It is odd to me you say it’s an insurance issue with a primary doctor.  If you have an issue with the insurance not paying, which is the only logical thing I can think of, an ER visit is going to be a heck of a lot more expensive out of pocket. 🤔 
I would definitely find a pediatrician, or the very least a family practice doctor that will take your insurance so he has regular care. This is important. Very important, actually. 
To answer your question though: In the meantime, I’d take him to an urgent care or minute clinic. Some Targets, CVS, Walgreens and other places have them inside for cheap. Wish you the very best. I hope your little one feels better soon!

I was in this position, I took my son to the ER and they gave him cough syrup and some antibiotics and it knocked it out in a week.

The ER is for emergencies. Not a runny nose 🤦🏻‍♀️ call your pediatrician if you're that concerned.

No ER but this stuff works amazing tho I use it on my two year old but only give her a half dose or if you can take him to an indoor pool for a few hours, works every time my kids get chest colds to clear it up

So there is a virus hanging around that’s lasting close to a month. Try the musinex on lady commented.  We’ve been using Zarbees cause my kiddo is only 1 1/2.  If you get super worried you can always try an urgent care.

I wouldnt take him to an er. That could just expose him to a lot more germs for an extended period. Call the dr in the morning and get their reccomendation. Some kids take longer to get over stuff, as long as their breathing fine lungs are clear and no fever or controlled fever than it just has to take its cours3
