TW ‘Depression isn’t real’

"Depression isn't real."

Tell that to all the scars on my wrist. Depression is real there are multiple kinds. There is clinical depression which is caused by an imbalance of neurotransmitters in your brain and situational depression which is caused by a traumatic event in your life. Depression is not just being sad or upset. We can't just work through the sadness and feel okay again. That's called suppressing emotions and can actually make everything worse.

"People who take pills for depression do it because they don't want to deal with their problems."

Don't you think I've tried? Don't you think everyone who takes meds for depression, anxiety, PTSAID, etc has tried? Without the meds and extensive therapy I probably wouldn't be here today.

"It's as real as you make it which means that if you don't think about it it doesn't exist."

Again, suppressing emotions is bad.

"My life sucks but I don't sit around all day expecting people to feel sorry for me."

Good for you, you're okay but that doesn't mean you can put others down for how they're feeling. Some of us can't do that. Depression is debilitating for some of us. Some of us just can't push through hard times like you can, it mentally and physically drains us.

"Being chemically unbalanced is in itself its own medical condition. Depression because of an effed up life or really enffed up events long or short term is certainly not a medical condition that requires treatment. It is easier for so many people to take a pill then to face the pain, anger and everything in between to be able to move forward."

Some of us do actually. We again need the pills to function because without it we couldn't do everyday tasks and even with the pills some of us still really struggle.

"You may choose bebe depressed or sad but that's your choice, you chose to feel that way. You have the mental capability to feel better."

I don't actually. I've tried so hard to make yourself feel better but it just isn't happening anytime soon.
