Sex before pap test?

Is it true that you can't have sex the day before a pap test because it will mess with the results?

I was told 48 hrs before. Because it can cause false negatives or false positives.

I didn’t know this when I had my first one done and it said I had abnormal results! I made sure not to two days before and everything was perfect!

Recent intercourse can in fact alter the results of a pap smear.
