When does free NHS dental treatment start?

Morning ladies. 
I was wondering if anyone knew when free dental treatment on the NHS starts? 
I’ve just been to a new dentist this morning for my first appointment and I wasn’t charged? I’m only 4 weeks along. I thought I had read you get free treatment when you present a MATB1?

Was in the dentist yesterday only 15 weeks so don't have matb and my dental care wasn't charged.. Didn't have to give matb last time either

I got mine when I had my 1st midwife appt. received it in the post a few days later.  It was backdated when I received it.

Sometimes they let you off and will ask for the card next time you’re there to get the number from the card.

I had this at 6 weeks, had to tell the dentist as she wanted to do xrays and then I didn’t get charged. Just showed my card next time. You get your card after your first scan I think, or first midwife appointment. I can’t remember which.

My midwife told me I could start free dental care from my 8 week booking appointment and take my maternity notes with me as proof....I'm in Wales though, so might be different here!

Yea it should be after you get your exemption certificate as hey should ask for the number for their own paperwork. They might ask you to hand it in once you get it otherwise they might charge you. I had to ask my midwife for my exemption form to complete as I had different fill in ones and none of them did it so I never got mine until about 20 weeks

If it's a check up its free for everyone. Think I was 20-21 weeks when I got the mat form from midwife.
