Too early?

hello mamas! i have a 15 month, he’s a chubby kid not going to lie. As a first time mom i was thinking it was time to potty train. what are some advice you experts can give me? is too early? also, i’m thinking about this bc he wears 6 diapers. and at any point he’s not going to fit into them:(

There are signs of potty training readiness. You can google them but here’s the first list I saw (example)

I have heard that if you try to start too early, it could take longer. I have also heard that generally boys don’t potty train as early on as girls. 
I would just go with the signs of readiness TBH but google for a more comprehensive list.

From what I understand babies are only capable of potty training from 18 months.

I don’t think it’s too early. We started training our 1 yo right before his first birthday because he was walking really good & following us around. We started by making sure he knew words for when he has to go. Like every time I’d go I’d bring him with me & said mommy has to potty or use the bathroom. Same for dad. He got those words down pretty quick. We started putting him on his potty a few minutes after he drank something. & of course saying yay or clapping hands if he actually used it. I think he likes going now because he likes washing his hands after. He always says wash after he finishes. But it’s still a work in progress. Sometimes he forgets & goes in his diaper. But overall it has not been wary 😭

I think that’s way too early. My son is just about 17 months and he shows no signs of readiness. I’ve prepared myself to not even think about potty training until he’s at least 2 and a half.

You shouldn't be potty training him unless he's ready. Wearing a size 6 diaper doesn't mean it's time to potty train. There are plenty of other diaper options out there for him. 15 months isn't too early, but he needs to be showing signs of readiness first.

I think it’s too early if he isn’t showing any signs. My daughter was potty trained fully at 17 months, but she was showing signs of not wanting to be in diapers anymore. We used cloth diapers and I’m not sure how true it is, but I’ve read kids in cloth diapers potty train earlier. Probably due to it being wet cloth instead of the diaper material. Here’s what to look for.

There are bigger size diapers but your kid will give you signs you can try but he it might be stressful if he isn't ready
