Lovenox question

I’m on Lovenox and have no idea how to discard my needles. I have a sharps container and I thought I could just discard the container in the trash but then the pharmacist told me the other day it’s illegal to do that and I have to actually mail it out to the address on he sharps container. That just seems to be a pain to have to do that every time... maybe it’s a state law Bc my friend in NY said she doesn’t have to do that. Anyone who’s on any type of shots told this??
