Parents of late walkers?!

Hi ladies, so my son is 20 months and doctors have been concerned about his motor skill development since he was 8 months. He was delayed in all motor skill areas, but his social skills were fine. Doctors un offically diagnosisd him with Diplegic Cerebal palsey at a year old.. but he had a specialest appointment this week and the peds says he is not consistant with the signs of CP. She said she doesn't think he has a learning disability.. he has great motor skill development, talks and is very vigilant... but she is now doing genetic testing to try find out why he cant stand independently and cant walk...(and why all his motor skill development was so delayed) i suppose im hoping that he could be a late walker... but he took a few steps on xmas eve and hasnt even attempted it since... i was told by loads of people that isnt normal and if he did a few steps then he should walk by now? Anyone here have children who were late at their motor skill developments? Where they diagnoised with anything or just late learners? Ive to wait another  2 months for genetic results...

My daughter sounds very similar to yours, very advanced language and fine motor skills, but was very delayed in gross motor skills. 
She stayed seeing a physio from 6 months because she wouldn’t bare weight on her legs. She had muscle spasticity in her left calf, so was referred to a specialist to test for cerebral palsy. I thought the worst when I heard that, but was told that it’s such a varied diagnosis, some are severe, some as mild as the child just having a barely noticeable limp etc. 
We had most of the tests done (hearing, eyesight, speech), but opted not to do the MRI as we didn’t want her to go under general anaesthetic, and she was improving. 
She started commando crawling at 12 months, pulled herself up to standing at around 15 months, but didn’t walk unassisted until 20 months. She’s now 3 and has no signs of any issues. We haven’t decided yet if we will do an MRI at some point to see if there are signs of some brain damage, will decide when she’s a little older. 
It’s really scary when you don’t know what’s wrong, and can be upsetting when they are so far behind. I’d recommend seeing a physio regularly (if you aren’t already), I think this really helped our daughter. 
I hope you get some kind of resolution/diagnosis, we were told that we may never know what was causing it, which was probably the hardest thing

My daughter didn’t walk until 21 months. She was ahead in verbal skills and right on for fine motor skills. She was fine on gross motor skills until she started sitting up and then she decided she didn’t want to bear weight on her legs anymore. She never crawled. She scooted around. She wouldn’t stand assisted or pull up. Her pediatrician ordered xrays of her hips at 18 mo which showed slight abnormalities and we were referred to children’s hospital and physical therapy. At children’s they determined her hips were fine. She went to physical therapy for several months. Her pediatrician, orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist all believed it was due to stubbornness. They were right. She stood up on her own right before 20 months. She took 2 steps the next day. Then refused to walk any more for a month. Once she started walking at 21 months she never looked back. My daughter was an early talker and she had a pretty big vocabulary for only being 1 you could understand everything she said, she was advanced in all other areas too however she would not walk. Her doctor decided she was just too busy developing in other areas to care about walking. Dr said if she didnt walk by 2 years old she would have to start physically therapy. Finally a few weeks after turning 18 months old she decided to walk.

My daughter didn't start to try to walk until she was almost 2. She has since been diagnosed with 22q deletion syndrome which is a genetic disorder. So she has really poor muscle mass and they say it won't get better. But she also had other problems along with the walking

My daughter only started to take her first steps just after 18 months. She enjoyed crawling more it took her till she was nearly 1 to crawl. I was and am still worried about her as my eldest who is nearly 3 done everything early amd is very clever.i know your not meant to compare but thats all i have yo go on.  At christmas she stopped walking all together she was really ill for 2 weeks with a sickness bug but has now started to walk again, all the time. Her speech has not come on at 20 months she hardly ever says any words except from dada and mama everything has a A at the end. Everyone including my health visitor are saying because of my eldest getting everything and saying everything for her she is being lazy. She understands everything that you say and ask her to do but im so worried. I read to her all the time, say short sentences and ask her what each item she is holding or asking for is, but she isnt saying much at all. The health visitor is due to come back and see how she is getting on, so will see what she has to say.
