Have you ever taken a semester off college? Do you regret it?

Im a freshman and I plan on quitting soccer (due to health reasons) so that means I will be losing my full ride at my community college. I'm broke and relied on this scholarship during high school so I didn't save any money. I'm not sure what I want to do so I thought taking a semester off college, working as much as my boss would let me, and gathering my thoughts so I don't waste time on classes I don't need. I just am not sure my parents would take it so well. I've been raised and observed other people saying that you need to go to college right after high school and get your degree as quickly as you can. Has anyone taken a semester off college before? Do you regret it or was it a good decision for you?
