Adult relationships

So I've been wanting to start ttc for a while and my husband keeps putting it off saying we need to save up more money, work on our marriage, etc. my concern is my time clock is ticking. I just turned 31 and he is 34. I don't know how long it may take us to conceive or if we even can. Last night we were going to have sex and he asked do we have any condoms? I told him we don't need any. One thing led to another and I told him that I was about to the point of being to old to start trying personally. He was heartbroken and started sobbing. I don't know what to do! How do I convince him to just go all in and start trying? I know he wants kids some day and he is great with kids. Ge just keeps puttting it off. Advice Please!

Update: we had sex tonight and he had no problem with having unprotected sex so maybe he thought about my side of it last night.
