Leaving nexplanon in past the 3 year mark?

Has anyone had to leave the nexplanon in for a while after you were supposed to get it taken out? Did you have any side effects?

Answer

While I personally haven't had to do this I assume it would just run out of hormones and no longer protect you from pregnancy, but not hurt you.
