Instead, we went to a different specialist and tried to do everything possible to avoid that outcome.  I was on strict bed rest at home until the baby reached "viability" at 24w.  We then checked into the hospital where I stayed on bed rest for another 8 weeks. 

On June 8th (31w 5d), I started to have a placental abruption and Marcus was delivered via c-section (he was breach & with the lack of fluid, they did not want me to labor at all).  He was immediately taken to the NICU where he has been ever since. 

Because he had no fluid for so long, he had severe pulmonary hypoplasia and was put on an oscillating ventilator.  We also found out he has a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot and will need open heart surgery.  Within a week, he also developed persistent pulmonary hypertension and had 2 level one brain bleeds.  The first month of his life was very touch-and-go as he struggled with all these issues. 

Amazingly, he survived and although still in the NICU, is making good progress. After 7 weeks, he finally came off the vent and now we're working to get him off the CPAP.  He needs to get to at least 10 lbs before he can have the heart surgery and we're hoping that we might be able to take him home for a little while before that happens.  He is a feisty little guy and the love of my life!  Here are some pics -- birth, 1 month, 2 months, and last week (2 1/2 months):
