I got one for free from insurance. I haven't opened it and I probably won't until I need it. :) if I end up using it great, if not it's a nice donation to our local women's help center.

Most women don't get their milk supply in for a few days to a week. A pump will help stimulate so that your body can start producing milk. Also, if you pump you'll have extra supply (most likely) and Daddy or partner can help feed. :)

I'll be home for almost a year and i got a manual one. For the times i need to store milk for when i'm out of the house.  Since you can't return pumps due to hygiene reasons, i got the manual one so if for some reason i cannot breastfeed, i only lost about $50 and not hundreds of dollars. This way if i really can breastfeed, and pumping works i can later decide if i'll need an electric one.

Was wondering same thing!  I have ulcerative colitis so if I have a flare up and have to go on meds, I will have to stop breast feeding, which makes me wonder which machine to buy, some are really expensive. I don't work, so I'll be home all the time with baby, which machine would be best if I do end up needing one.  My insurance doesn't help with buying one.

Brest pumps can be helpful when baby skips a feeding, you have a clogged milk duct, you want to bring on more milk. Lots of good reasons.

I think it's up to you but it may be better to have one on hand. You may have times where let's say someone is watching the baby and the baby needs to eat, or something along those lines. I personally would just in case.

My friend and aunt both stay at home and both have one. It's nice for if you want to go to lunch or something with a friend while your hubby or so watches the baby. My aunt had a cheap one from Walmart and my friend got the free one through insurance.

It can be helpful if you're engorged or have mastitis. Most insurance companies will cover one 100%.
