For anyone w absent fathers, when did your child start asking questions & what was the best way for you to explain to them?

11 weeks w my first baby, my babies father is not going to be involved, and I know one day that my daughter will ask questions but I don’t know what I’ll say to her, I wonder if she’ll resent me for not giving her a father that would be around

My two oldest kids (14 & 12) have not seen there Bio father in about 10 years or so. No phone calls, gifts for holidays absolutely zero contact. They came to me about a year ago and asked me a few questions about him. I was 100% honest with them...I didnt lie or sugar coat a thing.

My father abandoned me when I was 5. Like. No goodbyes. Just disappeared off the face of the planet for the next 6 years of my life. I don’t even remember what my mom told me to explain that. Once he reappeared, I was over him. I’m 30 years old and have zero attachment. Honestly, it hasn’t affected me as an adult and didn’t ruin my teenage years. I had a great mom and family who never made me feel emotionally neglected. When you have a strong bond with your child, there’s no reason for them to blame or resent you for their shitty father. Tell your child the truth about their father. Start young with age appropriate details so that the dialogue is always there and so that the child doesn’t actually have to ask you one day out of the blue. It should be casual conversation as to not make a big deal out of it.

I’m 36 weeks today and my daughters father hasn’t spoken to me since I was like 5-6 weeks. I plan on being honest with her. It won’t be something that I constantly harp about because I don’t want her obsessed with this idea of a person who won’t be available to her but when she asks ima tell her the truth the best way I can. Making it clear that it was him who left because he wanted to and not her or my fault. I’m gonna make it clear that when he chose to leave I had a choice to make for myself and myself only and I did what was best at the time which meant bringing her into this world on my own with all the love I could muster. I chose my baby because I wanted her and nothing could get in the way of that.

When I was little I didn’t know I had a dad I honestly didn’t care I just went on with my life and didn’t ask questions until he decided he wanted to drop into my life and leave over and over again all kids are different and will ask at different times if it bugs them
