UK birth plans?

Are birth plans a thing in the UK? I see a lot of mainly Americans discussing them but haven't heard much about them in the UK. 
I'm a first time parent so I'm totally clueless

Yeah, my midwife got me to make a brief birth plan but told me not to be disappointed if it changed because some things are out of our control

Yes a birth plan is a UK thing to but it's better to view it as a birthing wish list as the only way to stick to a birth plan is by sweating soo much the paper sticks to you lol.
This is roughly what I put for my birth plan:
Only husband or my sister in delivery room.
Preferably a natural birth with just gas and air
 (but willing to take /do what's needed to get baby out as quickly and safely as possible.)
Skin to skin a must and preferably delayed cord clamping.
I ended up having an epidural and being prepared for a c section lucky she came out with the forceps.

Yeah the Midwife’s like them as a guide but I never done one. They ask you anyway what you would like. 
I ended up over due having a failed induction and ended up c section. My only things I told them was for my partner to cut the cord and my partner to reveal the gender.

I did one for my first. Was hospital birth with my mum as birthing partner and only gas and air. I ended up having a water birth and it was amazing. As others have said things dont always go to plan, they just want an idea - for me luckily they were better.

My midwife asked about this a few weeks ago. I really don't think it's a great idea as you can't predict how labour will go. You'll only be disappointed if you can't follow your plan. After our antenatal classes I feel more confident in understanding the pros and cons of things like pain relief and have discussed with my husband what I would prefer (i.e. no IV if I can have a water birth) should I not be able to communicate this. At the end of the day the midwives/ consultants have yours and baby's best interest at heart and you just have to go with it.

I’m not doing one. My midwife said unless your really opposed to anything or want something in particular then don’t bother. She said they actually prefer it when people don’t have a plan and are more open minded. Plus they usually don’t go according to plan anyway. I’m just going to go with the flow. If I fixate on a part of it and it doesn’t go the way I want it will only annoy me. My plan is just to take it how it comes.

When I was at school doing child care the birth plan was one of the things I couldn't wait to do with my partner. (I'm 23 now)
But that time is coming in a few weeks and I'm looking forward to making one, BUT I know what I plan for and what actually happens isn't necessarily what I'm going to get. 😭
I really want a water birth, I'm autistic and the bath has been my best friend.
But there's only one or two birthing pools at my hospital and if they're in use then I'm sh*t out of luck. 😭
My next plan is a natural birth.... But let's face it, me and my partner are both going to be sucking on the gas and air, I'm going to be demanding an epidural and the whole lot! 😂 😂
But as I imagined when I was 14, I'm just looking forward to involving my partner. So far all he's been able to do is watch.

I used the NHS birthplan template. We pretty much stuck to it. It was good to have because everything went oit of my mind when labour started properly.

You can talk to your midwife about what you would like but my advise would be don't over think it then you will go with the flow best thing I did x
