How does custody work with a newborn?
Potentially thinking of separating with my partner, it would mean me moving back home which is 3 hours away.
Our little boy is 7 weeks old, the only way I can think that shared custody would work given the 300mile distance would be if I had the baby for 1 week then he got him for a week!
Realistically this seems daft as he works mon-fri so he’d probably have the baby looked after by his mam during the time he’s at work, I’m on maternity leave until August so I can obviously have the baby full time.
I can’t even think about being without my baby for one night never mind one week so I would prefer if this wasn’t the case right now but I’m obviously not trying to keep my baby from his dad.
My question is, if this all went to court would I be expected to agree to that type of arrangement while the baby is so young? Or would they take into consideration the effects it would have on mammy and baby if they were separated every other week?
It sounds like I don’t want his dad around him which is really not the case, I don’t want my baby to stay anywhere else overnight without me, but his dad isn’t going to want to drive a 300 mile round trip every weekend to see him.
Where do I stand?
