When to tell work?

Hey ladies! This is my first pregnancy, and I am only 5weeks. I am an oncology nurse and was wondering when I should tell work? Do I wait until 12 weeks? Or is it better to tell sooner rather than later? Thanks for your help!

Sooner! I'm just a med-surf RN but my coworkers found out quick due to morning sickness. There are also medications and certain isolation patients you want to avoid. I am also trying to not have to lift patients over 200 lbs so I don't strain my back. It's up to you but if you are dealing with chemotherapy I definitely would at least let your manager or supervisor know.

Personally I would wait, but I have a desk job.  Is there any thing that you do that needs to change because you are pregnant, such as not performing part of your job that would put baby at risk?  If there are no risks, it's up to you to determine when.  I actually don't have to tell them until it's time to set up paperwork for my leave, but I am guessing they will figure it out by then!

I am also an oncology nurse, and I rotate between chemo and radiation so I had to tell sooner than I would have liked because I had to get off the radiation rotation! Plus I guess it helps a little knowing when I race off to the bathroom and also with scheduling doc appts. Good luck! Make sure you try and munch on something every few hours and carry mints, being on your feet all day does not help with morning/afternoon/all day sickness!

I'm a dental assistant and I ended up telling my manager sooner than I wanted. I do have restrictions of what I can do at my job and I also needed to adjust my schedule some to make my appointments.
