How do you and your spouse file taxes ?

Last year, we ran the numbers to see which gave us the most back. For us, it was better to file jointly.

You get the biggest tax breaks if you file together. My husband and I make enough to put us in the upper tax brackets and we would owe almost 1k more if we filed separately opposed to filing together.

We filed separately the first year. It was just easier since everything was still in process of being changed and put together. Then we filed together after that.

My husband and I file separately for a couple of reasons the main reason is we keep our money separate in general. We each pay 50% of the house bills but we spend what’s left after bills how we want of course groceries are also split equally this works for us and may not work for others but it allows us to never fight over money. Another reason is when filing I get a tiny bit more married but filing separate than if we filed jointly bc I make under a certain amount.
