When can doctor tell gender?!

I have an ultra sound today.  I'm 16 weeks and 5 days. The doctors office saying I might have to wait until 20 weeks to find out the gender. But, I see so many women on here who know the gender before 17 weeks?!?! What the heck ...? Is my doctor full of bologna or am I just being impatient ?

You can usually tell by your gestation. Docs just like to wait until around 20 weeks because it’s likely to be more evident.

I found out when i was around 12 weeks I believe, from a maternity21 test. (Blood work)

You can know earlier with a blood test.
A lot of doctors wait until the anatomy scan, because sometimes they said that is more develope the genital area.🤷
 But if you wanna know now you can go there's some places that you can pay and they just check the baby gender.

Sometimes you can tell gender starting at 14 weeks through ultrasound. Usually OB offices don't attempt to look that early because it can't be guaranteed results. Private offices (out of pocket cost) will do those scans. 20 weeks is the usual time when your OB will start the gender scan, baby is bigger and results are clear by that point- if baby cooperates.

I found out via ultrasound at 14 weeks. My high risk doctor does an ultrasound at every visit and was able to tell me with an early anatomy scan.

You should be able to see the gender. A lot of doctors want to wait until 20 weeks for the anatomy scan but if you’re getting an ultrasound today then there’s reason they can’t try.
