What is your opinion on elective inductions at 39 weeks

I had a doctors appointment today and mentioned how uncomfortable I was and the topic of an elective induction got brought up. She said she would do an elective induction no earlier than 39 weeks. When asking about if it puts baby at increased risk of something going wrong she said that there are no increased risks or that it is unsafe for baby. That actually there has been studies done that 39 weeks is actually an ideal time. So I was curious about everyone’s opinions on elective inductions

I have no idea who would want to be induced lmao. It was the most painful labor I ever had. I was 40+1 and i was dilated a bit already. It was horrific. Also I had all med free births. I guess those who do ask for epidurals and such would want inductions lol but no thanks.

I don’t get it. We know pregnancy is long and uncomfortable as all hell. 
We know that it’s that way for the health and development, we know that it’s our job as mothers to grow our babies. Why are there so many wanting to eject them before they are ready?

I’ve been induced. It was at 37 weeks for medical issues though so not quite the same. It was horrific. I have also went into labor naturally at 39 weeks 5 days and it was a great experience. I know my situation isn’t always the case but I would hold off and see what your body does as long as there are no health concerns. Some babies just need a little extra time. My doctors won’t do inductions until 41 weeks in most healthy cases.

I was induced at 39 weeks with my first, and had a horrible labour which resulted in a c section after 2 days. My cervix was soft, I was 2 cm dialated when we started, and yet I still had some severe complications. My daughter inhaled meconium as a result of the pictocin and I got a nasty infection from the surgery. Some women have good experiences, but knowing what I do now I would never choose to be induced again! Look up the risks of the methods they'd use to induce you. It's not as safe as they claim.

I was induced for medical reasons both times during my 39th week. First time was because my water broke but contractions never started in their own, and that induction was not something I’d like to ever repeat. Second time I had a large flippy baby (and a couple other concerns) so they wanted to do a version and then get her out before she decided to turn again. But this time I’d had what I’d assumed were Braxton Hicks for days, plus they broke my water and used a Foley, so by the time they decided to start pitocin it was only 5-6 hours instead of 30+. I still wouldn’t voluntarily induce, but really wouldn’t be surprised if it was recommended again (if we decide to have a third, not thinking about it until these two are past toddlerhood).

My induction was incredibly easy. We induced on my due date, my labor was a breeze (especially after an epidural), and I have no problem with the idea of doing it again. That’s not everyone’s experience, though, and that has to be respected. I think as long as your doctor deems it safe for you and your baby, that it isn’t really anyone else’s business.

I was too nervous about doing that so I had a membrane sweep instead and it worked in two days. What made me feel okay about that was she said it would only work if your body was prepared to go into labor soon anyways and only works 50% of the time but it’s more natural so that’s why I chose to go that route. Just made me mentally feel better.

Been induced both times my water broke but never progressed..this time around my dr says he'll induce at 39 if she doesn't come on her own. Never had any probs with induction.

My OB has said if you’re thinning out and starting to dilate, your cervix is favorable and in most cases, a 39 week induction would be a positive experience. She said a lot of the time if you have no dilation/effacement, then the induction process is worse and is more likely to end in csection. If my little one isn’t here by 39w on his own, I’m considering inducing sometime between then and 40w!
