I’m pretty new to this stuff so a girl could use some advice! This might me a little long sorry

I’ve been seeing/dating a guy for 4 months now. When we just started talking, he said he didn’t want a relationship which is great because neither did I at the time since I will be graduating soon and will be moving back home. However as we hung out a lot more things progressed, we hooked up, and he told me he loved me.

We have never talked about our relationship in detail so I really don’t know where I stand with him; I have no idea if we are exclusive or not. What I do know is that I would not be comfortable if he does talk/see other people. So how do I initiate the conversation to define what we are? Do I ease into it or just go straight to the point?
