HELP. Does having an abnormal cells mean you have HPV?!

A biopsy will tell you if you have HPV and cervical cancer. An abnormal pap (finding abnormal cells) in itself does not mean you have either but they have you do a colposcopy (procedure with a biopsy) to find out if the cells are dangerous (hpv or cancer). I’ve had abnormal paps off and on for 10 years. One time I did have precancerous cells and they did a procedure to remove part of my cervix to make sure it didn’t turn into cancer and spread. All the other times nothing was found (no hpv ot cancer) and in the next pap the cells were normal again. (Sometimes the abnormal cells go unexplained then disappear) I’m so used to it I don’t even get scared when they tell me they find abnormal cells. I just go in for the biopsy and go from there. Definitely don’t ignore it. Get the biopsy. Cervical cancer is very treatable and rarely dangerous if found and treated right away but if you let it go you can die from it. It’ll spread. The biopsy does hurt, just a warning. But it’s worth saving your life and/or a lot of medical treatment and trauma later.

Abnormal cells are not an automatic sign of HPV and a biopsy in itself will not tell you if you have HPV. You have to be tested for it.

Actually the newest type of testing they do detects HPV even before cell changes. 
I found out too that as an adult you can also access guardacil vaccine if you wish.

I had an abnormal Pap smear and then did a biopsy and found HPV. All I had to do was get a repeat Pap smear every 3 months and if it was negative each time for 3 times, then I went back to my normal once a year check up.

I had abnormal pre cancerous cells show up . It was not by Pap smear , Pap smear showed clear. I just knew something wasn’t right . When they did a biopsy they found it . So makes me a little nervous about getting a Pap smear now . If you think something is not right just request it .
