Weight loss & diets

Tahiti

I’m taking a Kinesiology class rn and I’m learning about how diets do not work 95% of the time. Keeping up weight loss is also hard to maintain 95% of the time. There is a such thing as a set weight point that your body automatically has, it is a weight that you will stay at if you continue eating intuitively. Think of it as a ping pong ball floating in a glass of water, the ping pong ball represents you and the water represents your set weight point. Essentially, the more you press down on the ping pong ball and restrict yourself from eating certain foods, the more your body thinks you are trying to starve yourself. So when you finally cheat on your diet & bounce back to eating the way you used to, whether that be binge eating while you binge watch a TV show or you eat when you’re bored, your set weight has gone up than what it was before. While you were pressing down on the ping pong ball, your body was adding more water (fats) to the glass and when you bounced back, your set weight point was higher. That is why diets do not work, and honestly, this first day lecture was so helpful just to hear that because I thought it was my fault when I stopped dieting and I got overweight real quick. It’s just that my body was starving because I was over exercising and not eating enough as I should have. I just started taking this class so I don’t have more answers yet, but I’ll try to continue updating this the more I learn. I hope this helps others as much as it helped me. 💗
