Severe ovulation pain

How long is too long to have ovulation pain. I called my doc today because it has been over 24 hours. Its like a sore lower stomach and sharpish pains in my cervix that make it painful to go to the bathroom. Doctor said that it should be fine, but if it doubles me over or something then just to go to the er...
