Is it right for your boyfriend to LET you go to a club?

More info: I turn 19 this year and live in Canada. In Canada the legal age to drink is 19 and my friends and I wanna go to a club (like any other person celebrating their legality). I invited my boyfriend and he said no. We got in a fight tonight and he’s saying that it’s ridiculous that I expect him to LET me go to a club. ON MY BIRTHDAY. 
Mind you, I never go out at all. Never drink really because I have a kidney disease so my birthday would really be the only time I do. Is this right or super controlling?

He can't LET you do anything, because he doesn't have authority over you to begin with
He's allowed to tell you he's upset and why and why he doesn't want you to go, and it's up to you to listen to how he feels, consider him, and choose to respect how he feels, or disregard them and go anyway. You both make your own choices, but it's good to take into consideration how your partner feels about them

Honestly no one “lets” you do anything. You do what you want. You invited him and he said no. So it’s his fault that he doesn’t want to go. Go enjoy yourself and have fun. Tell him to stay mad

Me and my boyfriend had the same disagreement. His mom has to step in from us yelling and she explained to him that we are both young and while he’s not really the partying person I am. So he’ll have to accept that . And he did, although he still worries about me while I’m out he told me he didn’t want me to grow old and say I couldn’t do this and that because if him. He wanted me to go out and have so I’d have to have stories to tell our kids and spend quality time with my friends. And of course we make sure to get out dinner/day dates and such things together. Your man will just have to accept it . Don’t stop your life for him but come to a common ground.

My boyfriend and I don’t go to the club without each other. He’s not wrong for getting upset, you don’t want to respect his wishes.

I mean, he can’t Let or NOT LET you do anything! You are a free human being.. but also, it’s your birthday so maybe he should get out of his comfort zone a little bit! We all risk our comfort zone getting into a relationship and I don’t think your asking to much for him to go out with you... that being said I don’t think I would advise going out for the first time drinking with out someone you trust. And as much as you trust and love your friends, it’s different when you are out drinking.. they might get caught up, or lose you.. just tell him you want him to be there to celebrate with you and also be your grounding! You should be able to let go for this one day!

he ain’t ya daddy, and even if he was you are too grown for anyone to be talking to you like this, he is not the boss of you so he can’t LET you do anything. This is some pretty controlling behavior and is usually a red flag, I would talk to him about it and watch his behavior from now on to see if he exudes anymore controlling/manipulative behaviors.
