Does it hurt when they break your water?

I’ll be induced and since I’m already 4cm my doctor said no inducing drugs and just breaking my water... I don’t want the epidural until I absolutely need it (I like to move) so they will break my water without the epidural. Any tips or personal experiences?

It doesn’t hurt when it breaks... the contractions after your water breaks hurt more.

Mine broke when I was getting out of bed. It was like a small pop and a big rush of water. It didn’t hurt, but my contractions intensified. 😂

I'm sure everyone's experience is different. With my first when they broke my water I immediately needed my epidural right after. It brought on very painful contractions. The breaking of the water itself was uncomfortable but not painful. Good luck!

It does hurt when they break it. Just feel a pop and a gush.

It's only the same discomfort as a cervical check, because they put one hand up in there to guide the tool they use to break the bag of waters. Just had it done 2 weeks ago and it was not painful for me. It really helped my contractions get stronger and more regular too.

There are no nerve endings in the sac, so that part won’t hurt.
