Do contractions feel like period cramps?

I’ve been getting them too on and off. Two of my friends who have both had multiple kids said that those are pre-labor contractions. So real contractions, but could go for days or weeks before become consistent and then active labor.

I have been having a lot of period like cramps but are contractions as well. They are infrequent but not close enough together to count.

in the beginning it feels like period cramping and they get stronger,longer and closer together as labor progresses.
