Am I overthinking?

I’ve talked to this guy in and off for a while (long story, won’t get into it) he’s back and he’s saying he’s worked out all his issues and he’s ready to work on us if I till want there to be an us. Does it seem like he wants me to go to prom with him or am I just looking to make things about myself? I almost just jumped in and said I’d be his date just because I really wanna go and get dressed up but I wanted to go with my first love but he might not be going either. I can’t go alone because I’m a junior and at my school you can only go if invited by a senior.
